There are a lot of myths about chiropractic care.

There are a lot of myths about chiropractic care.

Maybe you’ve heard the one that “Once you go you have to go for the rest of your life.” Some are even worried that they’ll somehow get “addicted” to chiropractic adjustments.

Let’s put these wrongheaded ideas to rest, once and for all. To do so, we’ve created a fun little quiz. Want to play? I think you’ll be surprised. Maybe shocked. Click here.

HAVE A GREAT LIFE!

0

Hello!

I hope this post finds you saying “YES” to your life and letting your exhale go!

I certainly don’t have all the answers to “Having a Great Life”, but my book BREATHE and my seminar Enlightened Living both address the issue of:

How we often stop ourselves from having a great life. Both the book and the Seminar help us understand how we get in our own way and how to work with three simple strategies.

For example, one way to cope with our day to day lives: the little picture, is to tune into our Soul’s plan for us: the bigger picture. We open to this with the Meditation skill I introduce. It isn’t complicated.

Another example: How we cope with our physical and psychological pain. Old habits of denial, fear and repression, which create many problems for us in the long run, can be ‘released’ when breath awareness is part of our life.

There is a third skill that helps eliminate physical pain, increases energy and optimism, and deepens breathing. The Alexander Technique principles.

This is exciting, practical stuff and helps with your spiritual practice.

Join myself and others either: Sunday afternoon May 29th, or June 26th ($60), to explore this information that inspires, heals, and energizes. Remember, skill power, not will power, will more likely get you to where you want to go!

And if you want to repeat this class, come to the Refresher Class on Thursday, May 26th, for 1.5 hours, at my home/office: 20 Poyntz St. $30. I plan to offer both classes again in October.

Also, Nutrition Plus is offering a FREE 1 hour Introduction on Wednesday morning June 8th from 10:30 to 11:30.

You can go to my web site to buy the book BREATHE in audio, print or e book format. I have hard copy print books and audio books for sale in my office as well. http://enlightenedliving.me/#products

Thanks for your support and for lending your ear. Help me change the world one person at a time, by learning this yourself and sharing it through your own life. Best to you! Have a great life!

A Milestone Birthday Ignites a New Passion

0
My Fitness Journey 2015

Reaching the age of 50 last year was a turning point in my life – both for my health and fitness. While I have always considered myself to be “healthy” – eating sensibly and staying reasonably active throughout my life, this milestone year set off a new bench- mark. Call it a rebellious act, a mid-life crisis decision or just a desire to prove to myself what I can do, I decided to set a crazy-ass goal of training for, and competing, in my first bodybuilding competition – at age 50!

I had been approached about 30 years ago by a gym owner to consider bodybuilding. Not knowing much about the sport, visions of Amazon-like women with heaps of muscle filled my head so I flatly refused and said, “No, I do aerobics, thanks,” (which I did faith- fully about 3-4 times a week). Over the years, however, I became more attracted to the look of toned muscle on women, feeling it looked, in my opinion, sexier and more attrac- tive than just smooth, soft arms and legs. I came to regret being so close-minded about the idea of female bodybuilding and thought recently, why not now?

Not wanting to injure myself nor affect my health metabolically, I hired an experienced coach who came with glowing testimonials from others and who had competed suc- cessfully for the past 5-6 years, reaching both Pro and judging levels. We set out mid- August of 2015 on my 15 week plan in preparation for the upcoming OPA (Ontario Physique Association) November 28th Bikini competition – the last one of the year. In just 3 short weeks, I started noticing major differences in my body which in of itself was very motivating. My arm, back and shoulder muscles started to grow at a fast rate then shortly thereafter my six-pack appeared. Next my legs became leaner and my butt more robust – like never before.

The motivation to work out 2.5-3 hours daily for 5 days a week came from a combina- tion of factors. First, having a set deadline (November 28th as the competition date) was a huge motivator to keep pushing myself. Then hearing the many positive comments and feedback from others of how I was inspiring them to get on the healthy, fit track motivated me to complete my goal as well. Once I proclaimed it to my family and friends, both in person and online through social media, I had a mission to complete my goal. I not only had to prove it to myself, but to others too, what can be done at age 50!

Seeing the results myself in my body was very self-motivating. I have never felt and looked so good!

I love feeling strong and energized, and looking muscular and curvy no matter what I am wearing. When I am in the gym working out, with my powerful music playing in my headphones, I am in my Zen world. It is therapeutic for me, even a rush. I truly miss the rush of working out when it is a “Rest” day. One could say I have become addicted to the training and the competition process.

While I had originally set out with a goal to just be able to walk on stage and say, “I did it,” I now want to go further. I love this journey and want to continue with the hopes of making it to the National level. So no, I am not stopping, even after the age of 50!

The biggest reward to me is inspiring others to lead a more active, healthier lifestyle. And whether through writing, speaking and/or training, I would endeavour to help others simply be better overall – to live, love and enjoy life more!

PS. As it turned out, I came in second place in my age division and also qualified for the Provincials in June, 2016! So stay tuned…..
